Zuerst war es nur ein bisschen Regen, dann wurde es immer stärker und dann stürmte es richtig. Was als normales Gewitter begann, entwickelte sich zu einem Jahrhundert-Sturm in Newcastle. Ich wurde mir der Lage erst richtig bewusst, als ich folgende Email bekam:
„Dear Residents,
Please note that the University is officially closed. This means that access to any section of the campus other than the colleges is not permitted. Please do not try to go to the gym, library or to any other buildings on campus.
Security will be posted at the entrance of the University and will only be allowing residents to enter. For safety reasons guests are not allowed on campus at this time.
If you have an emergency please ring security on 88 15888.
The news is recommending that everyone stay away from the city of

Alles in Allem endete das Unwetter mit einigen Toten, vielen umgestürzten Bäumen, einer für 3 Tage gesperrten Uni, Überschwemmungen und einem angeschwemmten riesigen Kohlefrachter, der jetzt an unserem Strand liegt.

Bin mal gespannt, was mit dem Schiff passiert. Sollte es auseinander brechen, droht eine enorme Umweltkatastrophe mit verheerenden Folgen sowohl für die Natur als auch für die Einwohner Newcastles.
